Happy Place - The Drive Thru offers 50,000 sq feet of attraction strategically laid out on the upper floors of Westfield Century City’s parking structure. Though this was not a holiday drive-though like the many others we have reviewed; this event does indeed take place during the holiday season and ends January 10th. Some might even treat it as a holiday event because the overall vibe you get while driving through is festive.
The entrance to the drive thru is located right underneath Chase Bank and Eataly off of Avenue Of The Stars. Once you enter, you’ll retrieve a validated ticket so you can get out free of charge later. The experience consisted of what appeared to be random things, experiences, familiar settings that make you happy. The first section after entering is best described as an ode to California. It sounds simple enough, but in a very strange year, it was actually enlightening to see decor and displays that reminded us of the normal California life we all know and love; giving us hope that it will come back soon.
The recurring theme we noticed was that these were pop-art displays that reminded us of a time not too long ago (2019) where we could go out and do things. There was a camp display, a “route 66” type diner display, a slot machine, a dessert row, a giant interactive partial piano (activated via QR code) and an interactive club display (that’s right, you read right). When we pulled up to the attendant, we were told that this is the only legal club in L.A. We picked our music (you can do it by QR code) if you want it to be interactive, then we pulled into the bay. The club lights come on and the music starts thumping along with props of large woofers. After exiting the “club”, we drove through a room with tons of disco balls on the ceiling including a giant one in the corner. We won’t tell you the full experience, we just wanted to merely highlight that all these little things (err big things) really put a smile on our faces. However, we will share this one bit: what Californian drive-through would be complete without one of the most organic drive-throughs in history in which we call a car wash? That’s right, they even built a faux car wash drive-through set!
We found this drive thru pleasurable because we did not know what to expect. Hence why we were against sharing the entire experience here with you. This is definitely something to experience without assuming what it is. You may read our reviews and look at the photos; but in the end, it will not do any justice. Last but not least, to fully capture the amusement park or attraction experience; like how rides and exits lead to a gift shop, well this one does as well!
