Hikari - A Festival Of Lights at Tanaka Farms offers a unique opportunity for someone that was always interested in checking out the farm and at the same time wanting to look at holiday lights. As one of the few holiday drive-throughs outside of L.A. county; Hikari is ideal for the local resident that lives near Irvine.
We visited on a busy night where there were many stops and lots of bumper to bumper traffic. However, the perks of that was it allowed us to see everything and we were able to take still photos. There is a soundtrack provided by Tanaka Farms, we followed directions to download their app so we can play the music, but the app was not searchable or downloadable. As a failsafe, signs were posted to tune into 103.5 (KOST FM) in case it doesn’t work. Hopefully it works out for you!
When you purchase your ticket, there is a disclaimer regarding their dirt tracks. We want to let you know first that it isn’t as bad as it sounds. We’ve done drive-throughs with much rougher roads. Once you enter, you get to order concessions to enjoy in your car before entering the actual drive-through. At the drive-through, you can expect what seemed to be millions of twinkling lights to cover the entire field. This must have been quite a sight from a bird’s eye view. As you move forward, you’ll notice a combo of holiday props/umbrellas/lit-up tractors/snowflakes/fun facts/farm animals to name a few.
What we liked most was really the semi-privatized conversation we had with Santa. As we headed for the exit, there were 2 lanes. We were greeted by Santa’s elves and farm animals that were still awake and lively. Santa then took his turn greeting vehicles from each side and had short conversations with them as applicable. Santa actually was quick-witted and even did some improv on the spot. We mentioned that we liked Santa’s belt, which was gold with the world “Santa” on it. Santa mentioned that he wore it so that he can remember his own name! That was Golden.
