L.A. Zoo Lights: A Wild Wonderland of Light returned this year with a bang. For those that went to last season’s L.A. Zoo Lights, you need to come again. With an expanded section, layout changes, and display changes; this is a must-see for this season’s Holiday attractions. What’s great about this is that it goes on until the 5th of January.
We entered the front and were expecting a giant Christmas tree; that was no longer the case this year. Instead, you get a nice photo-op area with 4 corners full of animals playing. The colors change and you can wait to get the perfect hue with your skin tone. The Christmas Tree has actually been relocated next to Santa Claus which made sense, actually between him and some churros and hot cocoa. After the initial display in the front and after you pass the shops/boutiques; from this point forward you can either follow the map, or not. We found that, as long as you stick to the left side of the path then you won’t get lost.
The attraction overall was somewhat expanded this year but you still don’t really need the map. We didn’t really use it as it confused us even more; simply because not everything had signage so we were left guessing what a certain attraction was. So instead, we just walked and walked and let the sights naturally set in. As long as you follow the trail and stay to the left, you’ll eventually discover all the pathways and walk the entire attraction with no effort at all. The theme this year is: a “Wild Wonderland”, which they bring the wild to you. We did notice a significant of wild animal displays compared to the previous year. The much beloved water light show was still there and conveniently located after you exit The Lair; which provided a good break to catch some air outside because it could get stuffy when in The Lair.
The highlight of the night was the elongated light tunnel. There are various sections with different color combinations which gave attendees more choices for selfies and photo-ops. It was also the most popular attraction it seemed. L.A. Zoo Lights continues to make this event fun for families and people that want to enjoy a night out with adult beverages and holiday lights. We advise you to wear comfy shoes since there are a couple inclines and declines. You can catch LA Zoo Lights all the way up until January 5th; which we love because it is one of the few events that helps extend the season!
